How to Format a Salesperson Resume
A salesperson can choose one of three resume formats to demonstrate their sales knowledge, customer service and collaboration skills These formats are: chronological, combination and functional resumes.
Use the chronological resume if you have over 10 years of experience, as this format dedicates the largest portion of your resume to a detailed work timeline. However, if you have less than eight years of experience, use a combination resume. Candidate A below opted for the combination resumes because they can write a detailed work history for each job while showcasing standalone skills in a separate section.
If you have three years or less of experience, consider the functional resume. This highly customizable skills-based resume allows you to create multiple detailed skills sections to highlight your transferable sales skills. Candidate B used this format to downplay their relative lack of professional experience. Use ‘;hg using this format style, the customizable nature of this resume makes it perform poorly with applicant tracking systems (ATS).
