Correctional Officers are responsible for maintaining order in a detention facility. Responsibilities listed on sample resumes for Correctional Officers include supervising inmates with emotional disorders in an effective, firm and fair manner; initiating and participating in the searching of inmates and their housing units and work areas; and successfully completing specialized training courses in self-defense, medical emergencies, and safety management. Employers look for a high school diploma as a minimum educational requirement on applicants' resumes, though some state and local prison systems require college credits as well.
