Fiber Optic Technician / Head Machinist
Primary duty: To test, build and test again the heart of the system. An electromechanical Discrete Fiber Optic Assembly. This assembly housed two 50mW lasers, multiple photo diodes various circuit boards and over 200m of PM Fiber. These systems were entrusted Solely to be built by myself and two other qualified employees, in a company of over 150. All of the work pertaining to the FOA was conducted in a separate Laboratory that was humidity, temperature and ESD monitored to the highest level.
- I also designed and machined the prototype for a new style 4 Beam array for use in the current version of the system.
- Head machinist for the company. This posed an interesting challenge for me, while maintaining my primary responsibility. I was called upon almost on a daily basis to produce Rapid prototypes from drawings and solidworks files in a "chop shop" of a Machine shop that I was responsible for all tooling and safety practices.
- I was also periodically asked to join the Design Review Board. This board of individuals consisted of the companies Top engineers and at times myself. We would discuss up and coming designs and changes that were on the table to determine if the design or change to design was going to be beneficial and effective to the performance of the systems they were to go into.
- In addition, I was frequently asked to conduct the Incoming Inspection of machined and mechanical parts ordered from suppliers to make Sure that the components and parts are meeting the companies High tolerances for design.
