Database Architect Education and Training

Employers look for database architects who have a bachelor's degree in information technology, engineering, computer science, or a similar field. Candidates who have a master's degree in one of these disciplines are even more desirable to employers, though this is not usually a requirement of employment. Little on-the-job training is provided to database architects, who already have the skills and knowledge needed to perform the job's day-to-day functions. However, many employers provide database architects with a brief orientation period during which they become familiar with the company's data needs and existing database functions. This orientation period varies by company but typically lasts no longer than a few weeks.
