Investment Consultant Job Description

Investment consultants work directly with clients to provide advice and guidance on investment products and services that range from individual retirement accounts to wealth management and college savings accounts. This role can encompass several other financial services roles, including financial advisor and money manager. Investment consultants meet with their clients to identify investment goals, discuss strategies, and determine which financial products support client objectives.

The highest-paid workers in this role earn over $208,000 per year, while the lowest-paid 10 percent earn less than $40,800. Investment consultants who work within a larger organization may receive a salary plus bonuses, while independent investment consultants tend to receive a percentage of the funds they manage or an hourly rate.

The BLS expects employment in this field to grow at a very rapid pace of 15 percent through 2026, particularly as baby boomers approach retirement age.
