Surgical Coordinator Job Description

A Surgical Coordinator performs administrative duties relevant to surgical operations. This includes surgery scheduling, keeping patient records, entering post-surgical data and scheduling surgical equipment. It may also include other administrative duties as needed.

Depending on the size of their employer, Surgical Coordinators solely focus on coordinating surgeries, or they may also serve as office managers for surgical offices. They can also work for hospitals or coordinate surgeries for a number of hospitals in one network.

 

Surgical Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities

Other administrative tasks vary depending on the size and scope of the employer, but typically the Surgical Coordinator will manage incoming and outgoing phone calls and emails and often they will assist with management of the front desk as well. They may also assist with the insurance verification and billing process.

Enter Data and Complete Paperwork

In order to complete the administrative tasks related to surgery, the Surgical Coordinators manage all surgical documents, gather and input patient information, and enter all post-surgery data. They also ensure that all pre-surgery paperwork is completed in time for the patient’s appointment.
